Blade of the Immortal Anime Incoming!

Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon Magazine has confirmed that Hiroaki Samura’s Blade of The Immortal manga will be made into a television anime!
Of course, for those that don’t know the story:
“Manji, a swordsman that has been cursed with immortality by a witch for all the bad deeds he has done. However he makes a deal with the witch that he will kill a thousand evil men in order to repent his sins and to regain his mortality. On his journey he meets Rin, a young girl seeking vengence for the death of her whole family. The story follows these two on their passage to attain some kind of peace.”
The manga (which is still going) is definitely a good read for those that like serious stories and samurai fights in feudal Japan and the same goes for the anime. The manga has a unique feel and is drawn beautifully which I hope is also adopted by the anime too.
The anime is planned to be aired this summer in Japan. Koichi Mashimo (Noir) from Bee Train will direct the anime with Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Samurai Champloo) designing the characters and Ko Otani (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing) composing the music.
It is definitely going to be a spectacle with such a solid team behind it. I have a really good feeling that this anime might be one of the best anime released this year. Trailers and preview will be posted as soon as I see them, so stay tune.

EDIT: An update has shown a link to Blade of the Immortal’s official site where a sample picture can be seen!

Britney Spears in Ghost in the Shell?
Take a look at Britney Spears’ new music video for “Break the Ice” below. Look familiar? For those Ghost in the Shell fans out there, they should recognise it’s similarities with the Ghost in the Shell themes; from jumping off rooftops to the kickass moves of Major Motoko.
Here, check out the similarities yourself:
Break the Ice
If you want to know, the video was directed by Robert Hales who also made Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” which I respect both the music and the accompanying video.
Those that aren’t familiar with Ghost in the Shell can just watch the Opening for it to tell how identical the two are:
Thanks to Akadot (I’m not really a Britney fan so never actually watched the video before this).
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Movie Confirmed

As most will have found out, I am a Gurren Lagann fan so me and probably other fans was overjoyed to hear this delightful piece of news! Yes, Gurren Lagann is getting a film as confirmed at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2008 website which says further details on the film will be on the April issue of Newtype magazine.
In my opinion the movie could possibly be based on Simon’s years after defeating the anti-spirals, but to a Kamina fan like myself, I would prefer a movie plot based back when Kamina was still alive. You can bet i’ll be keeping you guys up to date on this!
Anyway, I hope Gainax does a great job on the movie like they did for the TV series; can’t wait to be blown away by the movie.

Trigun the Movie

Anime fans rejoice as a classical anime becomes a movie! The much rumoured production of a trigun movie has been finally been made official! And the suggested plot of the movie is exciting in itself with a tagline “Vash vs. Wolfwood” which will make Trigun fans squirm in delight.
The details of the movie goes as follows:

Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Jubei-chan - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch, Ninja Scroll series) will return from the Trigun television series to design the characters that Madhouse will animate. - ANN
The movie is planned to be released for Japan in 2009! Not long till we see the 60 Billion double dollar man!
On a side note, I apologise for the short post, I’ve been sick these few days. Will be back at few pace very soon =D

Speed Racer Video Game

Making ‘Stunt-racing’ look badass is the Speed Racer video game that will be complementing the release of the Live-action movie in March this year.
Yahoo has described it as ‘colorful, eye-popping racing adventure that puts players in the driver’s seat of the infamous Mach 6‘. The game will be released on March 6 for the Nintendo Wii and DS with rumours saying that it may utilise a Wii Wheel which will just make the experience feel more realistic!
Toxicshock gave some insight on the game’s features:
The game is designed as a game that players can build their own racing track, and it also has a “choose-your-own-adventure” aspect that presents the experience as a series of choices that the player must make in gameplay.
It is also known that players can choose between varies characters from the movie; each with their own strengths and weaknesses on the racecourse.
Let this trailer take you on a ride - speed racer style:
No doubt the game will be action-packed, adrenaline full and exposing drivers to a new type of combative racing experience!

Akira Live-action movie to be produced by DiCaprio

Warner Brothers and Appian Way (Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company) will be making two live-action films based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s famous Akira manga. For those that haven’t seen the anime movie, go see it! It’ll be great to compare the difference between an anime movie and a multi-million hollywood film.
For those that are clueless and yet to embrace Akira’s brilliance, here’s a short synopsis to clue you in:
In the year 2038. A police state, scheming politicians, religious sects, revolutionaries and a secret government scientific project in Neo-Tokyo all seek to control Akira, a boy that is kept in cryo-stasis due to his destructive psychic ability. But things change as psychic Tetsuo, a young biker releases Akira causing all the groups to take action. - ANN
The first installment of the live-action film is planned for release in summer of 2009 with the story set in “New Manhattan, a city rebuilt after being destroyed 31 years ago.” Although I’m glad to see Hollywood give a crack at making Akira, but to change the storyline to Manhattan instead of Tokyo might just have changed the story too much for any Otaku/Anime fan’s liking. Afterall, this manga was originally Japan-made.
The cast for the movie is still not known and there hasn’t been any trailers yet, so stay tuned to find out!

There will also be three race which players can play as including: Human, Namekian, Majin. The game will also possess character transformations, occupations, chained/combo attacks and HTB attacks to allow players to relive those moments we’ve all seen on TV.
Dragonball Online will be out in Korea this year, and in 2009 for Japan, while the rest of the world will just have to wait a bit longer.
