One Piece, Chapter 576: The Great Pirate, Edward Newgate

The marines are shaking in fear at the sight of the Blackbeard pirates and their newfound comrades from Impel Down’s level 6 prison.
Blackbeard then proceeded to explain the reason that he needed the Shichibukai title was to get into Impel Down for this very purpose. But before he could finish vexing Sengoku, Whitebeard releases a quake in Blackbeard’s direction, annihilating the fortress they stood on.
The bitter fight between Whitebeard and Blackbeard commences! Blackbeard neutralised Whitebeard’s devil fruit ability before he could use it again, but Whitebeard instead uses his bisento to slash him.
Whitebeard then used his quake ability to choke Blackbeard, which leads Blackbeard to get his crew to help him.
After unloading all their bullets into his body, Whitebeard staggers and reminisce over a time when he drank sake with Gol D. Rogers under cherry blossoms to which he expressed his disinterest towards One Piece and learnt the meaning behind the ‘Will of D.”.
The great pirate then tells Blackbeard that he is not one of the men that Rogers wait for to which Blackbeard is surprised that he’s still alive. Whitebeard continues, saying that a grand battle is to come.
With his last breath, he roars: “One Piece, it exists!”
In another flashback, it is made known that Whitebeard was interested in ‘family’. He died standing, after receiving hundred of wounds from swords, bullets and cannonball. But not a single wound existed on his back. He has never retreated in his life.
A great star falls, an era has ended…
