One Piece, Chapter 572: The Times They Are A-Changin’

Summary:
Cover page – Vivi enjoying a book while sitting on a sloth…
The pirates burst into ecstasy as Ace has long last been freed. But the war is not yet over.
The marines’ last-ditch effort to execute Ace and Luffy proves to be ineffective as the brothers show their sublime teamwork in battle.
Meanwhile, Squardo helms the Moby Dick on land and demands all the pirates to make their escape as he tries to redeem himself. But the ship is stopped by Whitebeard!
The captain of the Whitebeard pirates then gives his final captain’s orders of telling all of them to return to the New World as they have accomplished their mission at Marineford.
After the exchange of words, Whitebeard releases a quake attack at the centre of Marineford and prepares for his final fight.
Stopping a ship with one hand after being stabbed and shot a zillion times? That’s why he’s the world’s strongest!

This chapter is definitely one of those “passing-the-guard” to-the-new-era type. Even the title of the chapter suggests it.
Whitebeard’s poetic words: “I am the remnant of an old era. There is no ship for me to ride in the new age” confirmed what we expected and feared the most – Marineford will be his deathbed. But, Hell, every word he utters sounds so compelling!
Mr. 3 appears to be going back to Impel Down. I feel for him after what he did last chapter. As for Squardo, we expected him to do something to try and redeem himself, but looks like he’ll have to save it for another time as it’s Whitebeard who will get to be the hero this time.
Akainu’s remark on not letting them leave suggest he still has something up his sleeve, so their escape, even with Whitebeard’s support may not be as smooth as one should think.
My favourite panel of the chapter would have to be the flash back of Whitebeard when he just started out. It shows how similar Luffy and him are alike, as both see little value in treasures.
As for next chapter – expect Marineford to look like port-au-prince (in all seriousness though, you can support Haiti by donating here or here to name a few places).

I do hope we will get to see more of Whitebeard after the next chapter. A panel of flash backs shown after each attack he takes, one after another. It’ll definitely make it all the more emotional.
I think Whitebeard still have something up his sleeves, now that Ace has gotten rescued he don’t have to hesitate to use his quake abilities anymore.
Crocodile could help out Whitebeard by turning the whole Marineford into sand, then again, is Crocodile that generous?
A rematch between the admirals and Marco and Jose, now that they are freed is also to be expected.
Perhaps, Jose will toss the ship, like how he threw the iceberg, into the sea and have Marco carry him after they are done with the Admirals.
Akainu would probably go destroy the ship, hindering the escape plan and that is when the supernova’s ships come into the picture.
Buggy will be the one saving Mr. 3, a possible nakama of Buggy that we’ll see more in the future with his other new nakama from Impel Down.
Here he comes, or should I say there he goes…
