One Piece, Chapter 571: The Execution Platform

That’s no way to treat your grandpa!
You can download chapter 571 here, or read online here.
Summary:
Cover page – A stylish crab gives Nami a haircut.
Garp the Hero stands in Luffy’s way.
As the bridge crumbles, so does Garp’s resolution to fight Luffy despite all that he has said. His hesitation leads to Luffy connecting his punch. Garp is launched off behind the execution platform, presumably unconscious now.
The marines are stunned, but Luffy continues his way to Ace.
As Luffy finally making it on to the platform and tries to use the key given to him by Hancock to unlock Ace’s cuffs, Sengoku reveals his devil fruit ability.
Before Luffy is able to free Ace, his key was broken by Kizaru’s light beam. But surprisingly, Mr. 3 turns out to be one of the executioners who has now regained consciousness.
The tower begins to collapse after Luffy blocked Sengoku’s giant punch. As they fall, a barrage of projectiles are shot at them by the marines. With the help of Mr. 3’s wax key, Ace was freed just in time for him to protect Luffy and Mr. 3 from the barrage.
The pirates roars as Ace is finally freed!…

That’s some punch.
Thoughts:
Sukai:
The moment we’ve all been waiting for, Ace has finally been rescued, and by none other than Luffy! Is this a sign that the arc has finally reached it climax? Well, you would be forgiven if you thought so with the excitement and intensity of the past few chapters (including this one).
But with an escape plan still missing, Oda can certainly do a lot more in this arc. Not to forget the casualties of some prominent pirates that we’re expecting before this arc ends.
Then again, this IS One piece…
The highlights of this eventful chapter apart from Ace’s rescue would have be Garp showing his soft side, Sengoku’s Buddha devil fruit ability and Mr. 3’s appearance.
I truly believed Garp wouldn’t let Luffy pass him after those words, but Sengoku’s word rings true. Still, I didn’t like the fact that Luffy pulverished his grandpa. Hopefully he’s alright and just feigning unconsciousness.
As for Sengoku, I never would have taken his nickname literally: Sengoku the Buddha.
As for Mr. 3, his camaraderie towards Bon Clay was quite surprising, especially with what happened in Impel Down. But, hell, I shed a tear for you!
Soulboy:
I’m not sure if the marines noticed that Garp took the hit on purpose or accept the fact that Luffy is just overpowering them.
Well, Garp’s career pretty much depends on it. Now that he is stuck on the ground, he could just lay there sleeping till the war is over and come up with an excuse later.
With Sengoku’s devil fruit power shown, it just shows how powerful Shiki is!! Taking on both Garp and Sengoku when they are in their top-form singlehandedly, it is just insane.
When will the movie be subbed?! Darn it.
I sure hope Sengoku’s power does not just increase in size and strength, even though it is pretty amazing to knock Luffy back to chibi from Gear 3. Perhaps more power related to Buddha?
Could Mr.3 being on the platform, be part of Crocodile’s plan? It is great to see that villains don’t die in One Piece, they become friends and plays important part as the series progress.
Now that Ace is free, it is likely that the pirates will retreat and the unexpected arrival of Suppernova will aid in their escape.
Whitebeard, Squad, Jimbei would most likely stay behind and sacrificed themselves to allow others to escape.

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s what you’ve been waiting for.
