Full Metal Alchemist, Chapter 102: Before The Gate

Summary:
Mustang opens the gate of truth involuntarily as Wrath pins him down on the ground as Pride uses the Doctor as material to activate the transmutation.


In a puff of smoke, Mustang disappears and in his place appears a disfigured body that resembles the Doctor. As for Wrath, he challenges the others who remain to a fight to the death knowing his current weakened state.


However, the chimeras noticed that Father was below them and Scar blows a hole for the rest of them to reach him. Scar, himself stayed and fought Wrath.


Meanwhile, Mustang has exited the gate and the price for travelling through the gate was his eyesight.


Al, who also arrives at the gate, is finally reunited with his body, but in a grand act of selflessness, he decides to stay in his current armoured form in order to fight the battle at hand. He promises that he will be back for his body and passes through the gate.


Arriving back, Al is greeted by an ecstatic Father who can put his plan into action now…

Looks like Wrath’s time is running out as this will probably be his final battle. Surely he will enlighten us with more flash backs about his human heritage before he leaves. He has certainly been an interesting antagonist.


We’ll finally see what exactly is Father’s plan next chapter as his five sacrifices have been collected. Whether his plan will follow through will depend on the resistance that the alchemists can put up against him.


Mustang will play a key role in this fight, but I do doubt seeing him fight next chapter.


We’ll likely see the emotional and traumatised-side of Mustang being blind. Riza will probably play a part in snapping him out of the shock and possibly become his “Hawk-eye”. It’s either that, or Al puts him in his armour and aims for him instead.


Soulboy:
I feel so sorry for Mustang. He didn’t even want to see the gate and yet he has to pay the price… And the Father just has to rub it in with his pretty words.


Seeing it in the present time-line instead of a flashback doesn’t make it any less tragic, in fact it is even more gut wrenching.


Looking on the bright side, with a little help of direction, Mustang can now use his flame alchemy without a transmutation circle.


I am speechless to see how Al and his body worked out. Salute to you.


Anyway, there is something wrong with Pride, whatever it is; it just might come in handy to trigger a dramatic turn for this event.


And good job Father, you just got yourself Izumi, Ed, Al, May and chimeras to hinder with your plan.
