TBA’s Five With Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
Being an anime character is busy work, especially for one as popular as our first ever guest for this new TBA segment. ‘Five with’ is a five minute interview segment where TBA interrogates chat with the greats and the up-and-coming greats of the anime universe about all sort of things. Get the paramedics ready – the next five minute will be intense!
TBA: Welcome Kamina-sama, you’re our first ever guest on TBA’s new ‘Five with’ segment. We’d like to thank you for sparing some time for us to have this chat.
Kamina-sama: Thank you for having me! It’s definitely an honour to be your ‘first’. I have plenty of free time now since the Gurren Lagann series ended. I even started a band to kill some time. Oh! And call me aniki, we’re all brothers here!
TBA: Okay Kamina-sama… I mean aniki! Before we begin the main interview, could you introduce yourself to our readers? I’m sure most of them know you, but just in case.
No problem! I love giving introductions!
You guys better clean out your ear wax and listen closely! I’m Kamina-sama, the man who will grasp the stars with my manly grip of burning passion! The leader of the Dai-Gurren Lagann Brigade! Don’t you forget it!
TBA: What a passionate introduction! Aniki, you’re known for your valour and courage, but has there been a time when it was not the case? Where you hesitated?
A real man never steps back, and I, Kamina-sama, am a real man! I’ve transcended fear and hesitation. A true man, like myself, never dies even when he’s killed! I’ll continue to live on as long as there is something precious to me that I need to protect!
TBA: Such wise words! It makes complete sense! With such a view of life, you must have many great memories, which is the greatest moment for you thus far?
The greatest moment in my life thus far without a doubt is meeting my aniki, Simon! He’s my courage and a strong source of support for me. Oh, meeting Yoko comes pretty damn close! Sorry babe! I love ya! It’s just Simon is my ANIKI! You understand right, baby?!
TBA: I’m sure Yoko-san understands! Moving on, do you recall the time when you and Simon ‘Gattai-ed’ together for the first time to form Gurren-Lagann? It was a memorable moment for us, so do you mind walking us through that incident from your view?
Hell Yeah! I remember it clearly. How can I not! Me and Simon was beaten half to death in that fight! But true men don’t give up! If we’re in hell, we’ll just break through it!
I was struck by inspiration when I remembered how the Super Sentais would gattai to beat the villains for a dramatic comeback K.O. every week! My guts told me that we needed to gattai too. So we did it. It worked. And damn did we give viral a beating!
TBA: I’m sure fans enjoyed that scene as much as you did! But let’s get a little more personal now. How has your relationship with Yoko developed and how is it now?
Yoko and I are like sword and sheath, moon and stars, cows and moos… We were meant to be together! A perfect fit! Here, I keep a photo of her with me all the time, isn’t she the cutest thing?
Sure our relationships have its up and downs, but there’s nothing that can break our bond! Kittan did come pretty close that one time though…
Damn, stealing that kiss from my girl! Who does he think HE is?! Who the hell does HE think I AM?! He did save our nakamas, so I forgave him… after a long manly talk from my fist.
TBA: We’re about out of time, so one last question. Your words have always been so inspiring. Do you mind saying a few words of encouragement to our readers?
Of course I can! Inspiring is my specialty. But, first, let’s get some background music going:
