Annual Pig Rodeo In Japan

A few days ago the annual pig rodeo took place for the summer festival in Seiyo City, Ehime Prefecture of west Japan, the leading area for producing pigs in Japan.


The size of the pigs make the rodeo safer, but much harder, with each rodeo lasting only seconds.


As will soon see, it looks like lots of fun, and it probably is, but I’m just a bit concerned about the pig. They’re about the size of a normal human being and these specific ones that are used for the rodeo weighs about 285 pounds. I’m sure an average human on its back would put a fair amount of strain on those little guys’ bodies. Then again, they are going to get eaten soon…


This year, ten pigs, all bred in Japan were chosen for the competition with around 40 contestants competing for 50,000 Yen (USD 500 approx.).

If the Japanese put their minds to it, I’m sure they can think of a more animal-friendly event, like a robotic pig rodeo…
