Giant Robotic Spiders In Yokohama

Not to worry, everyone! Japan is not under attack by men on giant robotic spiders with evil agendas!


It like you’re on the set of some new action movie, but yet, not. These giant robotic spiders are crawling around the Japanese port city of Yokohama. Making no sense? Then let me clear things up for you. Yokohama is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary since Japan opened its ports for international trade and commerce in 1859. Being one of the five ports that opened for trade, Yokohama is partying pretty hard right now.



As a sign of internationalism and global commerce, a group from France called La Machine constructed these spiders in Liverpool, England and was brought to Yokohama to celebrate the special occasion. So why giant robotic spiders? Who knows, let’s just enjoy the show. But, just be aware that the spider will be roaming the streets of Yokohama until the 21st of April.

The celebrations will go on for 5 months and you can keep track of all the events on their events page. Look, there’s going to be a re-enactment of the Arrival of the Black Ships!
