Japan might still be a long way off from realising their Gundam dream since my last post about the matter, but for the rest of us we can marvel at what it’ll be like if there was a life-size gundam strutting around in an urban Tokyo park! We can imagine, right?

An 18 meter RX-78-2 Gundam has been reproduced courtesy of Bandai to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Gundam. To imagine that it’s been 30 years since we set foot in to the wondrous world of Gundam and its many, many, many different series. Ah, it feels like it was only yesterday…

Anyway, enough mumbling! This RX-78-2 Gundam doesn’t just act as a scarecrow for the various critters inhabiting the park with its stature and flashing lights. No, of course not! This life-size model can also, you guessed it, shoot out… steam from various parts of its body. What an anti-climax you say? Well, I doubt the original ballistic missiles and laser idea went well with the Tokyo Department of Public Safety.

Update:
The construction has finally finished, you can take a look at the gundam in all its glory with its flashing lights and moving parts in the video below:
