Japanese Tombstones Equipped With Barcodes

Reminding us why Japan is so technologically advance is their electronic bar-coded tombstones. That’s right. Tombstones!


Keeping in touch with your loved ones that has passed was just made easier in Japan. Square black-and-white barcodes that can be scanned by mobile phones will allow friends and family to view photos and other information about the departed from literally, beyond the graves!


The privacy of the deceased will also be of no issue as the tombstone manufacturers plan to keep them behind lockable stone doors. Thus, letting the family decide if they only want relatives to be able to scan the bar-codes.


But getting such a privilege to stay in touch comes at a hefty price. Each tombstone with the bar-codes comes in at around 1 million yen ($10,000)! But I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
