20th Century Boy Live Action Movie!

20th Century Boy is coming to a silver screen near you! The manga was created by Naoki Urasawa who also created the popular Monster series as well. As a fan of 20th Century Boy, it’ll be interesting to see how they transform a brilliant manga into a film!

For those that haven’t read the manga, here is a little synopsis to fill you in on what you’re missing out on:

Kenji is trying to make ends meet by running a convenience store to care for the niece of his missing sister. Memories of youth make it easier, until those memories come back to haunt him.

Kenji and his old friends are slowly being drawn into a mysterious conspiracy that could threaten the world. Who is the mysterious “Friend” and how does he tie into Kenji’s youth? Their memories hold the keys to the puzzle, but time and age have clouded their minds.

The movie will be released in 2008, and will be directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Kenji, the main protaganist will be played by actor Toshiaki Karasawa, and his two childhood friends, Otcho and Yukiji will be played by Toyokawa Etsushi and Takako Tokiwa respectively.

What made this movie even better is its a trilogy, and the first movie coming out in Japan on August 30. With a budget of 6 billion yen (about US$60 million) and filming locations in 7 countries, including Japan, Thailand, America, England, and China, this film is something worth anticipating for!

The official site for the movie is here!

And, of course a trailer (although it just makes the suspense harder to bear):
