Japanese military to develop Gundam

The Japanese Ministry of Defense is exhibiting at their symposium something called “Toward the realization of Gundam” which is categorized under “Land equipment”. The Department of Ground Systems Development further called it the “Towards The Realization Of Gundam (Advanced Personal Equipment Systems)” on their PDF program. Is Japan really thinking on building mechas?
Many have already voiced how the plan would be unfeasible due to power required for these mechas and how expensive the R&D will cost. But, Hey! It’s Japan we’re talking about, they’re the 2nd largest economy in the world and if their scientist are as creative as their anime artists, they’ll find a way.
Mechas being employed in the military has always been a subject of talk in the Otaku community, but will fantasy finally become reality? Will we be seeing a giant, human piloted Asimo running around in Japan in the near future? Who knows…
UPDATE:
All is not what it seems, “Toward the realization of Gundam” isn’t really Gundam after all.
But, don’t despair, you can still find out how much a real gundam actually costs or as a consolation, here’s a life-size gundam to commemorate the anime series’ 30th anniversary.

yeah, that’s really something.
hope they succed
-
I want one
-
Yeah they need something to defend them in case Godzilla were to come back and attack Tokyo again.
-
The Japanese military are going to have to develop these to defend themselves when the US invades.
-
ummm I’m pretty sure that picture is from the Gundam museum in Japan.
-
Wow Teros you really are a retard.
Japan was and has already been invaded by the US. End of story goodbye.
-
Japan doesn’t even have a Military.
The closest thing they have to a military is their self-defense force, which is more like America’s National Guard than a true military.
-
Wow Genius, you should really check your facts before calling someone a retard, retard.
Japan was never invaded by the US - it surrendered before any invasion took place.
-
Grubb.
The SDF IS their military. the only difference is where and how they can be deployed. It is NOT like the U.S. national guard. The difference is a jurisdictional one, not a practical one.
-
Well whatever, who cares…. LET’S RIDE ON IT!!!!
-
teros is still a retard. japan is one of the united states’ closest allies
-
you are all noobs, that picture is older than the internet and is a not real

Though Japan is our closest ally, China has all of our money. If Japan is planning on building Gundams (protip: they’re not), who do you think they’ll attack? I’m not saying they WILL attack China, I’m saying if they did, China would drop the ‘we’re nice people, really’ facade and say if we don’t defend them we can kiss the US economic stability goodbye. That would mean attacking Japan. That would mean dragging the EU into this, and then it’s anyone’s say what happens.
Of course, that’s probably worst case scenario.

Who has been circulating the crack. This is a doctored photo. Just look at the shadows. As to the assorted comments about the JDF, China and the US, said Gundam would be about as usable as a military tool as a blow-up doll is good for a sex partner.
-
That looks like Sandrock though. It should handle fairly well in that area. Maybe not as good as if they’d had built Shenlong, but you can’t have everything.
-
fake
part of the treaty that japan signed after world war two stated that they cannot have a military.
-
@fingerpuppet.
It’s not a military vehicle. It’s an exoskeleton for large scale construction *Wink*
-
lol@ the ppl that ssay the pic is fake. its not, its a giant life-size model.
-
what a pile pile of nonesense. can you imagine how easy a target this would be for the enemy. one anti tank missile fired from 3 miles would easily flattern it.
-
omgee..if big asimo walking around, where we want to put us human?
-
“Land Equipment”, lol
japanese….bizarre people, but we have to love them! -
its so obviously a fibre class statue for a gundam expo
britain is americas closest ally not japan
japan has no military
and to the bam that said the US had never attacked japan one word ….hiroshima -
interesting…..considering since the end of WWII japan hasn’t had a military….soooooooooooo i call bull crap

Hello. I am Japanese.
It is true that the defense ministry began to develop the Powered suit.
The robot like GANDAM is scheduled to be made in the future. The beam saber and the optical camouflage are made at the university in Japan.
However, it is not a technology to invade another country.
The Japanese knows the foolish sheath dreadfulness of the war. -
All we need is a German tsundere and an emo kid.
Wait, wrong series. We need effeminate males! Lots of effeminate males!
-
there stupid real talks.look at the gundams in the show.the fuel economy is solar power with a back up battery(smaller and used in the night)
but then again i dont c them making a gundam.thats too much power and if they do were all dead LMAO.
look how big those things are geez how would u stop it if u didnt have missiles or if they invaded a country.so i dont think the other nations would really allow this.AND YE I went to the museum in japan and i seen that.its fakkkkkke. but good theory=)
-
well if they build the refelx timeing on this thing is going to suck unless they figure out to get human like reflex on the thing its just going to be just like the ww2 german king tiger tank, slow and easy to destroy
-
haha you guys are kidding me, nobodys strapping nuclear reactors in a giant robot, and if they cant get ASIMO to whip out lightsabers and shoot zakus then this cant.
it would be the most amazing thing ever thogugh
-
lo…so even if japan can make a moving working mobile suit
they would have to find a adquate power supply to make it work..
yea they could strap on a mini reactor but here is one thing…once that reactor is in place theyc an not turn it off…it would always be running..they may be able to shut off the OS systems but the actually machine it self would not… but even if it was built it woud be a work of art showing how the most technological advance country is and how many things are possible if you try..
writing an Os system for that would not be hard..you would just have to fing a way to make sure it works on how well you put the program together…other than that i would lovr to see on acutally work.
they are smart ppl who bleive anything si possible..but to make it move you would have to use huge jyrosystmes to make the arms ore and anything else…bu those would only work for soo long before you have to replace them…but to make someting that big would take a lot of time…you could try to make it hydraulic but the immense pressure woulld make it usesless…the lines would burst and everything wouldnt work…there are soo many mechanical questions on how would this thing move or work…you just ahave to look at if form all directions…but if they do manange to make it work and move like how they do i the sereies…its would be spectacluar thing to see. -

By than, i think the world will be in total chaos. As Japan will invade the world once again with this unstoppable machine. ! Their homeland will be covered by the force shield. So any invasion threat is minimized and a full scale assault could be concentrated
Imaginations**

Lol; you’d be able to Javelin that from eighteen miles out. Where’s gonna hide?

Brilliant find
